Get Your Vitamin C Fix

Many of the popsicles you buy at stores are made from sugary drinks, but did you know that if you make your own popsicles at home, you can make a healthy treat that is loaded with vitamin C and other important nutrients? It is so easy to make ice popsicles yourself, and if you don’t have the right molds, you can even use an ice cube tray. Here is an easy way to make some healthy, delicious popsicles. (Your kids will love them, and they won’t even know they are eating something healthy.)

You will need:

• Fresh oranges • Ice cube trays • Plastic Wrap • Toothpicks

How to make popsicles:

Squeeze the oranges to get the juice from them. You can remove the pulp with a strainer if you like, or leave it in (more nutrients are in the pulp, so it is a good idea to leave it in). Fill the ice cube tray with your home made orange juice. Cover the tray with the plastic wrap, and then poke toothpicks through the plastic into each section. Freeze, and have healthy, delicious orange ice pops whenever you want them.

You don’t have to limit yourself to orange juice to make your own popsicles. You can use any type of juice you like. Lemonade is great, especially for kids who love sour candy and other treats. Or, you may want to try apple juice, fruit punch or anything else that happens to tickle your fancy.

The only problem with homemade popsicles is the fact that you have to wait for them to freeze. If you have the space in your freezer, it may be a good idea to make up a few trays, and when you start to run low, make new ones. That way, there will always be popsicles on hand when you want one. Try making your own ice popsicles today, and fill your freezer up with tasty treats that you and your kids can enjoy all summer long (and even in the winter if you don’t mind the cold).
